About The Ford Expedition

For those who need an SUV that can do absolutely everything, the Ford Expedition here for whatever you need to throw at it. Comfortable seating for 8 actual adults, huge cargo space, a truck-like towing capacity, and a dedicated offroad trim, the Expedition comes with some serious credentials. It is powered by a twin-turbo V6 that makes noticeably more power than the V8s found in rival SUVs, while keeping fuel consumption to a minimum. This isn’t the only tech that makes the Expedition impressive either, as the cabin is full of the latest in comfort and infotainment equipment, and advanced safety tech keeps everyone safe. All-wheel drive is available, standard on some trims, and additional offroad equipment like skid plates and tow hooks can be added. The SYNC® 4 system is compatible with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, and the available premium stereo and back seat entertainment system make for a more enjoyable drive for everyone.

What the Critics Say

"Yes, the Ford Expedition is a very good large SUV, and its performance score is among the best in the class. This Ford’s twin-turbo V6 engine has ample muscle and more than holds its own against rivals’ V8 engines. The Expedition also has composed handling for a vehicle of its size." — U.S. News & World Report

"The same goes for its ride and handling—with its aluminum body reducing weight, you don't really feel like you're driving something that huge. Our Expedition XLT test vehicle felt planted even when driven on tight corners, with the steering feeling precisely balanced while delivering the right amount of feedback." — MotorTrend

Ford Expedition Features

Ford Expedition Towing

Uncompromising Performance

With so much interior space, it might be easy to forget that the Expedition boasts some other seriously impressive features. The engine is a 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost® V6 with a 10-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission. This comes in a few different forms, with standard versions producing 380 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. The Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum trims get an upgraded version of the engine, tuned to 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. There is also a high-output version of the engine that you can get with the Limited Stealth Performance package. This produces 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. To go with this power, adding the optional Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package and AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™ brings the towing capacity of the Expedition up to 9,300 pounds. That’s more than a lot of pickups, but the Expedition can manage it while carrying 8 people.

Ford Expedition Interior

Well-Equipped Interior

The first thing to be said about the interior of the Expedition is that it’s large. In fact, it is large enough that the Expedition offers 40.9 inches of legroom for third-row passengers, more than you’re going to find on other three-row SUVs, and making the Expedition one of the very small number of SUVs on the market that can fit adults in the third row. The seats can also be folded down to make for a massive 104.6 cubic feet of cargo space, or 121.5 cubic feet in the Expedition MAX. There is an available B&O® Unleashed Sound System by Bang & Olufsen® with 22 speakers to make whatever you’re listening to sound incredible. Thanks to options like the Panoramic Vista Roof® and Zone Lighting, the interior of the Expedition is well-lit without the lighting being too harsh or distracting. Available heated and ventilated front seats, as well as heated second-row seats and tri-zone climate control with controls for both rows of back seats, keep everyone at a comfortable temperature. Everyone can also charge their devices and have no problem finding somewhere to put their beverage, thanks to the 6 charging ports and 15 cupholders.

Ford Expedition SYNC 4 Infotainment

Cutting-Edge Technology

One of the biggest reasons why the Expedition stands out from the competition is the technology that comes with it. This starts with the engine technology and advanced materials and construction techniques that make the Expedition so much more capable than the competition. But it certainly doesn’t end there. The Expedition comes with a standard infotainment touchscreen that, at 12 inches, is much bigger than most infotainment touchscreens already. But those who want a bigger screen, that’s even easier to see and operate, can opt for the 15.5-inch vertically-oriented unit that also comes standard on higher trims. Both units run Ford’s powerful SYNC® 4 infotainment operating system, which is also compatible with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. The entertainment options continue with FordPass™ Connect, which gives the Expedition a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. There is also an available Dual-Headrest Rear Seat Entertainment System with Amazon Fire TV, for second-row passengers to watch movies, TV, or listen to their own music independent of the excellent stereo found in the Excursion.

Ford Expedition safety

Advanced Safety

Technology has also been harnessed to make the Expedition safer, thanks to features like Ford Co-Pilot360™, an advanced suite of driver aides aimed at helping the driver avoid accidents. This includes things like BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane-Keeping System, and Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB). There are parking sensors, always an important thing to have in a larger vehicle, and there is an available Active Park Assist 2.0 System, which can take over control and park for you, which a lot of people will find to be easier. Another of the semi-autonomous features available on the Expedition is BlueCruise, which is a hands-free form of cruise control that lets you take a break and allows the Expedition to drive itself (under certain conditions), allowing you to arrive at your destination rested and refreshed.
